Life Skills Program
The Life Skills program expands the already successful services the Mission provides to servestudents in grades 6-12. The goal of the Life Skills program is to increase our children's confidence in themselves and in social/academic situations ultimately enhancing their chances of succeeding in life. We also strive to increase the likelihood that our participants will ultimately attain a high school diploma.
Six months into the program's implementation we are already seeing students looking beyond high school and thinking of how they can shape their future now. The children are gaining more and more confidence in academics as we boost their skills in essay writing and math. These critical foundation skills are essential to success on the SAT and ACT college entrance exams. Our students now have a greater awareness of what it takes to get a diploma and go on to pursue post-graduation education.
Included in the Life Skills series are the following:
- Study and Organization Skills
- Path to College - SAT prep
- Sex Education
- Drug and Gang Prevention
- Dress for Success/Etiquette Class
- Bi-annual Parent Seminar
The Life Skills series is offered on Thursday and Friday afternoons separate from the primary After School Program. The 6-8 grade students meet on Thursdays and the 9-12 grade students meet on Fridays.
