The after-school program is staffed by loving volunteers who work with our students to complete their daily homework assignment before shifting into enrichment games & activities.
In these critical foundation years, our goal is to ensure that all of our students are meeting their grade-level academic requirements. Learning in a second language presents an added challenge for our students. Although most just need a little extra support, some will require one-on-one tutoring to progress. Our program coordinator works closely with the schools to identify anyone needing that extra support.
Exposure to technology at this age is geared toward sparking curiosity and interest in science and math. With the Mission’s roving technology cart, each grade is offered an opportunity to ‘play’ with the computers once their daily assignments are complete.
We provide weekly chapel time for all students led by Felix Lora, or a guest minister from our area. Whether it is done in a small group setting or as large group, our goal is that all of our student would have a time where they learn how to develop a Christ-like character.
This exciting new program weaves in technology and reading into one. Using FaceTime, Google Hangout, or Skype, our students virtually read with volunteers. It is a win-win for both! Busy executives can easily volunteer without leaving their office while our students have the benefit of improving their reading fluency and understanding of communication technology. Quarterly, in-person celebrations are held to celebrate progress and to enhance the buddy relationship.
